Subsequent to the Declaration, many freed blacks and escaped slaves from the south settled to areas around Beacon Hill and the North End. This area was one of the north's destinations for southern black slaves escaping along the Underground Railroad. The Black Heritage Trail is celebrated by landmarks and well known museums.

Other popular tourist attractions in Boston include Faneuil Hall, Burying Ground of the famous American soldiers and the Bunker Hill Monument. The Bunker Hill Monument is one of the most visible monuments celebrating Boston's place in the American Revolutions. The Monument is the first obelisk constructed in America the a symbol of the American spirit. This towering monument made from Quincy granite is a classic status that celebrates the Battle of Bunker Hill, one of the first American victories against the British.
